In Alberta, Gas Fitters do not require licensing (as in some provinces) therefore there is no interprovincial "Red Seal" for this trade. However all Gas Fitters in Alberta must hold a Certification of Qualification or be a Registered Apprentice with the Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training. In order to work in Alberta, a gasfitter must be ONE of the following:
- A registered apprentice
- A certified journeyperson
- Someone who holds a recognized trade certificate.
To register with Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training, apprentices must find a suitable employer who is willing to hire and train an apprentice.

Gas Fitter Class B Licence in British Columbia: In BC, the certifications for Gas Technicians are administrated by the BCSA (BC Safety Authority). The Gas Fitter Class B certification is the intermediate level for Gas Fitters - Technicians in the province. In order to be Gas Fitter Class B, a passing grade is required in the written BCSA exam. The exam for as Gas Fitter Class B is based on the books of the CSA Standard modules, the code books CAN/CSA-B149.1-10 Natural Gas and Propane Installation Code, the B149.2.10 Propane Storage and Handling Code, BC Safety Standards Act, Safety Standards General Regulation and the Gas Safety Regulation,  and other related provincial regulations.

Gas Appliance Service Certificate (Formerly the Class C) in British Columbia: The Gas Fitter Class B certification is the intermediate level for Gas Fitters - Technicians in the province. The Gas Appliance Service certification is the entry level for Gas Technicians in the province. In order to be Gas Appliance Servicer (Class C), a passing grade is required in the written BCSA exam.

The Office of the Fire Commissioner - Inspection and Technical Services Manitoba is the Manitoba Government agency responsible for Licensing of gas fitters in the province. Manitoba requires that only registered contractors and licensed employees of contractors with gas registrations may install or work on a gas appliance or any gas works. In keeping with the rules in other provinces gas fitters are sorted into degrees of certification training. The Gas Fitter Class B certification is the intermediate level for Gas Fitters - Technicians in the province.  A gas fitter holding this designation may install gas equipment for a single appliance that does not exceed 400,000 BTU per hour. This means that the total gas supplied to the installation point may exceed 400,000 BTU per hour however no single unit can be rated over 400,000 BTU per hour.

Gas Fitter Class C Licence in Manitoba. The Gas Fitter Class C certification is the entry level for Gas Fitters - Technicians in the province. Gas Fitter “C”: This is a valid liquid petroleum gas fitter's and this person can install gas equipment using liquefied petroleum gas. The input to any single installation cannot exceed 125,000 BTU per hour.

The province of Newfoundland and Labrador does not require licensing however the government encourages trades people to get Certificates of Qualification (C of Q) in their area of expertise

Gas Fitter 3 Certificate - Nova Scotia. To get this certification individuals and companies must demonstrate that their employees have the appropriate experience for mandatory licensing by the Ministry of Environment & Labour. The Gas Fitter 3 certification is the entry level for Gas Fitters - Technicians in Nova Scotia. A registered apprentice shall be eligible to be examined for a Gas Fitter 3 Certificate of Qualification only after the apprentice has completed the term of apprenticeship (600 hours of combined practical and technical training). A Gas Tech Fitter 3 in Nova Scotia must be under the direct supervision of an onsite journeyman who is the holder of a Gas Tech 1 or Gas Tech 2 certificate.

Gas Fitter 2 Certificate - Nova Scotia. The Building, Fire and Technical Safety division is responsible for Licensing of Gas Fitters Class 2 in the province of Nova Scotia. Because of its explosive nature certification as a gas fitter is enforced by the Fire Marshall's Office. The Gas Fitter Class 2 certification is the intermediate level for Gas Fitter - Technicians in the province. A Gas Fitter Class 2 may install, purge, alter, activate, repair, service or dispose of any natural gas or propane appliance that has an input of 400,000 Btuh or less. This also includes the equipment and accessories essential to its operation.

Gas Technician G-3 Certificate in Ontario: In Ontario, the certifications for Gas Technicians are administrated by the TSSA (Technical Standards & Safety Authority). The certification G3 is the entry level for Gas Technicians. To take the G3 certification exam, work experience is recommended (but not mandatory) and/or at least a 120 hours course of combined theory and practical hands-on experience A 75% passing grade is required to successfully achieve Gas Technician G-3 Certification. The exam for G3 is based on the first 9 books of the CSA Standard modules (24 books), the code books CAN/CSA-B149.1-10 Natural Gas and Propane Installation Code, the B149.2.10 Propane Storage and Handling Code and other related provincial regulations and codes.

Gas Technician G-2 Certificate in Ontario: The certification G.2 is the intermediate level for Gas Technicians in the province. To take the G.2 certification exam, the applicant must hold a G.3 certificate when he or she applies.   A minimum passing grade of 75%  is required to successfully achieve Gas Technician 2 Certification. The exam for G2 is based on the books 10 to 24 of the CSA Standard modules (24 books), the code books CAN/CSA-B149.1-10 Natural Gas and Propane Installation Code, the B149.2.10 Propane Storage and Handling Code and other related provincial regulations and codes.

In Quebec a Gas Technicians and Gas Fitters doing either commercial or residential work have an RBQ license.

A licensed Gas Fitter Domestic may work on residential, commercial or industrial natural gas and/or propane systems including any gas appliance that does not exceed a 400,000 Btuh rating. This also includes the piping and fittings, air supply and venting.
